Don’t Miss Out! Popular NHA Exhibition A Passion for People: Forty Years of Nantucket Portrait Photography by Beverly Hall Closing on February 18

NANTUCKET MA: A Passion for People: Forty Years of Nantucket Portrait Photography by Beverly Hall, the NHA’s exhibition featuring more than seven hundred images on multiple presentation screens in the Whitney Gallery of the NHA Research Library, 7 Fair Street, will close at 2 P.M. on February 18.

It will be the last week to enjoy this popular exhibition, showcasing Hall’s outstanding eye for portraiture through four decades of Nantucket history. Organized by categories, the screens allow visitors to view subjects such as “Notables,” both local and global— including her remarkable images of Madaket Millie and Mr. Rogers—or “Artists,” highlighting the gallery scene on South Wharf in the 1970s and beyond; and reflecting Hall’s love of animals, “Pets and People.” Her work captures an important chapter in Nantucket’s postwar history, a time that it is increasingly important to record and showcase as part of Nantucket’s evolution.

Hall is a published author, artist, gardener, and deeply spiritual person whose energy and keen eye are clearly apparent in the broad scope of her images. Her independent style brings a distinctive quality to her work, which practically transports the viewer into her photographs. Close to being an island icon herself, her images convey the unique state of mind that is Nantucket.

The Whitney Gallery is open during library hours, Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 10 A.M. – 4 P.M., Tuesday, 11 A.M. – 4 P.M. and is closed Wednesdays, weekends, and all holidays.
