Partake of a “Winter Studio” afternoon at the NHA’s 1800 House

NANTUCKET, MA: It may be Nantucket’s off-season; however, the Nantucket Historical Association’s (NHA) 1800 House coordinators are keeping busy by holding open winter studios every other Tuesday afternoon throughout March.

“It’s a long cold winter and these afternoons afford a creative outlet in which to gather together, work on personal projects, and share ideas with each other,” said Mary Lacoursiere, 1800 House curriculum coordinator.

“Because our early American arts and crafts classes are offered from June through October, we thought it might be a great use of the space in the off-season, and a good chance to vet new ideas for future classes,” said Lacoursiere. “We are inviting all those interested (you do not have to be a prior 1800 House student) to bring their current projects and their own supplies, and join us for one or all of the open studios.”

Traditionally closed during the winter, when the new class schedule is being firmed up (it will be available online in March), some of last season’s students wondered about the possibility of meeting at the 1800 House during the winter to finish projects and discuss new ideas with other like-minded artistic types.

Interested participants are welcome to come to 4 Mill Street on Tuesday, February 22, and March 8 & 22 between 1 and 4 P.M. to work in the company of other creative people, share ideas, and perhaps finish those projects that have been on hold for many months.
