HANDS-ON HISTORY FOR CHILDREN
Daily in the Whaling Museum’s Discovery Room

NANTUCKET, Mass.: NANTUCKET, Mass.: Join us for Hands-on History—an educational-crafts program for children 4–12 years old. Activities are offered daily, 1–4 P.M., in July and August, in the Discovery Room at the Whaling Museum, 13 Broad Street.

History comes alive for children as they see artifacts from the Nantucket Historical Association’s collections and learn about the souvenirs of Nantucketers’ worldwide adventures, and then create their own souvenirs to take home. Each day features a different activity: Monday, alphabet books and treasure bags; Tuesday, stovepipe hats and friendship handkerchiefs; Wednesday, scrimshaw; Thursday, Kahili feather wands and U’U clubs; Friday, china teacups and Chinese folding fans; Saturday, sailors valentines; and Sunday, fire buckets and stovepipe hats.

Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the program, and adults are encouraged to participate in the activities with the children. Hands-on History activities are free for NHA members or included with Whaling Museum admission.

For more information, inquire at the visitor services desk at the Whaling Museum; call 508-228-1894, ext. 0.
